HOW DOES SELF WORK?
Download the Self app and set up your security with a high-res facial scan.
Verify a few facts about yourself, like your email, phone number, passport details.
This is the important bit: the details stay on your phone. They're not stored on ours (or anyone else's) servers.
Use Self to register and create a trusted connection to companies, charities and organisations with one tap.
Feel safe that your data stays under your control.
IN A BIT MORE DETAIL...
You have a library of verified facts – name, email, phone number, date of birth, home address etc – stored in the private store within the Self app on your phone.
Because it's on your phone and not in some shady third-party database, you know it's not going to be abused, leaked, hacked or sold to dodgy spammers. You're always in control of your data.
When you sign up to a service using Self, it's the best way of proving you're not a bot, spammer or hacker, so companies and organisations love it. They can request access to just the facts that they need to deliver you a service, or even just the knowledge the facts imply (“Are they user over legal drinking age in their country?”, for example) as they need them. As these have all been confirmed by third parties, they can trust them without needing any more forms of identification.
We think the old model of companies and developers managing databases of personal data belongs in the past. It's just not fit for today's world.
